今さらながらですが、今週はオバマ大統領の就任式がありましたね。
これで、アメリカは民主党による新体制に移りました。
アメリカが国際社会で再びリーダーシップを発揮できるか、
困難が多い「今という時代」を再生できるか・・まさに全世界が
注目した就任演説でした。
巷では、オバマさんの演説集などがかなり売れているらしく
改めて、言葉のもつ意味と重要さが注目されています。
僕は、オバマ大統領のこれまでの演説や就任プロセスを
見ながら、ふとイタリアの学校の教科書の話を思い出しました。
イタリアの学校の教科書では、指導者に求められる５つの
資質について、次のように取り上げています。
「指導者に求められる資質は次の5つである」
①知性 ②説得力 ③肉体上の耐久力
④自己制御の能力 ⑤持続する意志
「カエサルだけが、このすべてをもっていた」と。。
僕自身、歴史やローマ時代の話が好きなので
これまでもたくさんの歴史の本を読んできました。
その中で、歴史上最も優れたリーダーは誰かと問われれば
いつも真っ先に思い浮かぶのがこのユリウス・カエサルです。
ガリア戦記をはじめ、カエサルに関する伝説やエピソードを
目にするたびに、この人はほんとすごいなぁ・・・・
と、2000年の時を超えて感嘆させられます。
自分の軍団の部下は常にボスについていきます状態にさせて・・
敵さえも味方に引き入れることなんて朝飯前だったカエサルは、
まさに説得力＝コミュニケーションの達人でした。
オバマ大統領の演説は、非常に説得力があると言われていますので
リーダーに必要な資質のうち、説得力は及第点かもしれませんね。
今後は、これ以外の資質にも注目していきたいですね。
