先日訪問したある会社の社長がふと気になることを
口にしていました。
その社長が言うには、どうもここ最近の若い人は、
自分のキャリアを急いでいるように思えてならないということです。
キャリアを急ぐってどういうことですか？って聞いたら
自分が直接的にやりたいと思っていることや自分が
イメージしているキャリアの役に立つと思われることだけを
やりたがるというようなことを話していました。
この話を聞いて、う～んそうなのかと唸ってしまいました。
実は、以前に別の業種の会社の社長も同じようなことを
言っていたのを思い出したからです。
「最近の若い人」というフレーズはあまり使いたくないのですが
自分より一回り以上も違う世代ですから、自分らの世代とは
異なるパラダイムをもっていて当然だと思います。
キャリアを急ぐとは、言ってみれば仕事に対して直線的な
姿勢で向き合うという感じなのでしょうか。。
・自分のやりたいことに関係ないことはしたくない。
・これは自分の仕事じゃない。
・すぐに成果の出ない仕事に不安を感じる
その社長は、平成生まれはゆとり教育世代でもあるから
仕方ないのかな・・なんてこぼしていました。
そうした現象の主因をゆとり教育だけに帰依することは
理不尽ですが、従来の詰込み型教育から解放され、
のんびりじっくり自分のことを考えることができたゆとり世代の
特徴なのかもしれません。
ただ、こうした直線的な考え方は、時として視野を狭め
本当に仕事に必要な能力形成の機会そのものまでも
断ってしまう可能性があるように思えます。
キャリアや能力の蓄積ってそんな直線的かつ
急いでなんてできません。
目の前にあるやらなきゃいけない小さくて細かい
仕事がたくさんあって、そうしたことをコツコツと
やっていくうちに気づいたらできている。
その繰り返しが、自分のやりたいことやキャリアの
血となり肉となっていくもんです。
自分の夢やキャリアを実現するには、まずは自分に
与えられた義務を全うすることが一番大事。
こういうのって、伝えたり教えたりして頭で考えるような
ことじゃなく、仕事で感じるものなんじゃないかな。
社長の話を聞いてて、そんなことが頭をよぎりました。
