梅雨が明けてからというもの
毎日暑い日が続いています。。
こんな時期だからこそ夏バテだけは避けるよう
体調管理に注意です。
さて、昨日は懇意にしている社長からのお誘いで
商工会議所主催の「経営革新塾」に参加してきました。
この塾は、ドラッカーの理論を中心とした勉強会ですが、
昨日は、参加者全員でマキアヴェッリを考察しました。
君主論で有名なマキアヴェッリは、その評価においては
昔から賛否両論ですが、僕個人としてはかなり大好きな
人物の一人です。
君主論は、今でも帝王学、リーダーの座右の書として
欧米などでは広く読まれています。
マキアヴェッリが残した偉大な功績は一言でいえば
人間性についての冷徹な考察だと思います。
マキアベッリの君主論の冒頭に、有名な次の言葉があります。

古今東西、多くの賢人たちは想像の世界にしか存在しないような
共和国や君主国を論じてきた。
しかし人間にとって、いかに生きるべきかということと、実際はどう
生きているかということは、大変にかけ離れているのである。
だからこそ、人間いかに生きるべきか、ばかりを論じて現実の人間の
生きざまを直視しようとしない者は、現に所有するものを保持するどころか
すべてを失い破滅に向かうしかなくなる。
なぜなら、なにごとにつけても善を行おうとしか考えない者は、
悪しき者の間にあって破滅せざるをえない場合が多いからである。
それゆえに、自分の身を保とうと思う君主（指導者）は、悪しき者で
あることを学ぶべきであり、しかもそれを必要に応じて使ったり使わな
かったりする技術も、会得すべきなのである。

君主論は、政治の「技」についての論考ですが
つきつめれば、「人間性の本質」を突いた普遍的な名著です。
経営者や人事マンは、一度読んでおいても損はないと思います。
